Grocery Delivery is Amazing!
I really like our little High Street with it's green grocer and butcher shop. Our local grocery store is pretty small, it suits us for the most part. It's small so we just have to work around it not always having the things we buy in stock. I walk or bike to the shops and am limited to how much I can carry home. So today, when there was no soy sauce or bagels or Greek yogurt on the shelves I was inspired to try something we've seen advertised. I just signed up for the most amazing grocery delivery service offered through Waitrose, which is one of the higher end grocers here.
I hopped onto the website to check it out. I immediately found a number of the missing products I wanted to pick up on the straightforward neat pages. With a 40£ minimum purchase, I started to fill my cart, it's only a 3£ fee for a delivery. The 3£ is certainly worth avoiding the aggravation of going to our nearest Waitrose that has limited parking and always is busy and packed.
The website is impressive and continues to impress me with it's ease of use, organization and product availability. It makes it so easy to find the products you're looking for organized by category or you can just use the search tool. It also has handy pre-made grocery lists for staples and frequently purchased items. I got caught up in the "ideas" listings where there is a list of three or four products grouped together for meal ideas, you just press one button and the ingredients are all in your cart. Lamb joint with red currant sauce and sides of butternut squash and pumpkin? Yes please! Beef bourguignon, potatoes dauphinoise and peas on the side? Sounds like a fantastic combination to me!
You can also purchase more than food, alcohol or cleaning products, there are books and other household sundries as well. You can save the lists you've made and keep lists open and add and edit them as you need to, so Mark and I can both be adding items we want.
You choose your delivery time as well, they deliver as late as midnight. You're presented with a chart showing available delivery times with little van icons. The green vans indicate when another delivery is in your area and they ask to try to choose those times to help save on petrol. Our delivery time was between 8-9pm.
This was the most pleasant and efficient customer service experience we have ever had. The groceries come presorted in color coded bags (purple, red and green) for cupboard, fridge and freezer. I had one product that wasn't available so they included a similar substitute, telling me about it and saying if I didn't want it it could be returned and not billed. Actually, the charge on my card doesn't go through until the van returns to it's dock, to make sure of any changes made to the delivery. They show up, drop off and leave. I was so taken aback by how smooth and quickly the delivery went I feel terrible that I didn't tip the delivery person.
I still am fond of our little High Street that I can walk to but it's nice to have this fabulous new option.

In a land where customer service is sometimes lacking, it's a nice treat to have groceries delivered to my door!
