Back in Pittsburgh, sometimes we would have guests stay with us so frequently that we joked about our house being a B&B. We love the company and we love cooking for friends. Well, The Denovich B&B, now relocated to a small village outside of London, has officially had our first guests! Recipes for reference-- Dinner: marinated pork tenderloin in a mustard sauce with caramelized onion and cherry compote, smashed potatoes (made with creme fraiche instead), and a simple baby field greens salad. Pino noir and Shiraz wines consumed, quite nice with the pork. Dessert: fruit tart (short bread crust, used my creme brulee recipe whisking on the stove top for a vanilla custard filling, topped with heaps of fresh blueberries and raspberries). Dinner was followed by an evening of bull-shitting, games and a movie, Idiocracy by Mike Judge, with Luke Wilson. As I love anything involving the Wilson brothers, it had to be worth watching. The premise involves our worst nightmare, the human race dumbs down because intelligent people are not breeding. Luke Wilson's character is part of a secret hibernation army project that gets forgotten about. He awakes 500 years later to find out he is the smartest person on the planet. Hilarity ensues. It's worth watching. No, really. Breakfast: ricotta pancakes topped with toffee syrup and bacon, of course. After breakfast we went for a five mile walk around our village and along the Thames, feeding the mobs of ducks our stale muffins, stopping at a local pub for lunch, exploring a fantastically huge garden center I had no idea was there complete with pet and aquarium store (they have Monkey Puzzle trees! We are so getting one!). Our doors are always open, our guest bed is suitably comfy, so who's going to be our first international guest!
