Catch 22's
So, after being married for 7.5 years I'm finally getting around to legally changing my name. Because, you know, I had to try out a bit to decide if I liked it. I do like the alliteration of "Deb Denovich" that I just don't have with "Deb Zieger" it does have a nice sound to it. With moving abroad, being able to work off of my husbands work visa, it'll just make things easier in the long run. I am practical about so many things.
I feel as if I'm caught in a giant catch 22 whirlpool needing to change my name on my social security card, passport and driver's license all at once. Each requiring some combination of the others (plus marriage license and birth certificate), with photo id and other id's using both my maiden name and my married name.
It really isn't difficult. But between the language used and forms required, it's making it seem much more complicated than it should be.
My plan of attack:
1. Find a SS office I can go to in person. This way I immediately get my original documents back (marriage, original ss card, and oddly, a photo ID that already has my new name on it...) which I need to have in hand to move forward. Edit: completed 8/7, I'm officially a Denovich, because, you know, I had to try on the name for a few years to see how I liked it, if it worked for me :)
2. Once I have new ss card in hand, visit a PENNDOT office in person for new driver's license (which I need the ss card with new name and marriage license in hand to do). Edit: completed 8/15, Complete with goofy new photo and all!
3. Change Passport, which I need to mail in originals of everything, a scary proposition in itself, "here, have everything to steal my identity in one convenient envelope!" and have it expedited so to have it all back in about two weeks time.
The passport change may have to wait until September, after we return from the next London trip, but definitely before we move there for good. Edit: dropped in the mail 8/15, hopefully having it expedited, it all gets back for filing with Mark's work visa
I hate paperwork. Just make it all magically appear the way I need it all to be!
