Strange how the last three movies I watched all had Jena Malone in them. I had never heard of her, but then she pops up as coincidence in the last three movies I've seen. Saved!: gets a "meh" it was okay, I watched it a couple weeks ago on the recommendation from a friend. I have a soft spot for cheesy teen movies fitting into that category of "they're so bad they're good" for entertainment value, but still, meh. Donnie Darko: A friend brought this over on Thursday night. I can't believe I haven't seen this one sooner. I've seen the image of that creepy bunny rabbit Frank all over the place and just didn't get it before. An excellent sci-fi pic. Although I'm told the directer's cut version has quite a bit more that explains what happens to the main character, I would be willing to watch that again. The United States of Leland: I recommend this one highly. I need to watch it again and I honestly have the dvr set up to record when it is on again. I was paging through the movies last night and stopped on this one because it had Kevin Spacey in it and I generally love anything he has been involved in. I won't divulge plot lines, but this drama is extraordinarily thought provoking. Movie reviews are split nearly equal on this one, either people love it or they hate it, there are no shades of gray in between. I loved it. If you enjoyed Donnie Darko, I highly recommend giving The United States of Leland a shot. Mark and I were reading the wikipedia criticism of USOL where it's referred to as "The United States of Donnie" due to a number superficial similarities. But don't let that criticism dissuade you from watching.
