I've been christened...
I've been with Mark for, what, over seven years... last night, long after our friend's wedding was over, after we went to a brew house and closed it down, 2 in the a. m. I had my first Coney Island Sundowner.
I've heard about this mythical and mystical beast from tales of yore for years. It looks scary and the Coney Island Hot Dog Shop is apparently the only place you can get food after midnight in Johnstown, but Oh. My. that was tasty.
"What's a Sundowner?" you ask?
It's a burger, topped with the Coney Island Chili sauce (think Alpo gray slop, rumored to be made largely out of the ground up remains of the previous days uneaten hot dogs), a fried egg, mustard and finely minced onions. A heart attack on a bun basically. For the monstrosity that arrives on your plate, it has a surprisingly subtle flavor. Maybe it's because I was drinking, maybe it was the ambiance (the place hasn't changed in 50 years or something) or maybe because it was 2 in the morning in Johnstown. But. Oh. My. that was a tasty tasty burger.
What's great is the place was hoppin' and everyone who came in was ordering Sundowner's.
