Wedding Weekend Recap
I want to begin by saying how wonderful it was to see so many familiar faces and meeting new ones. I have this problem, you see, I love my friends tremendously. There are people in my life that I care about deeply that I don't get to see very often and this weekend was so full of love. Most especially for JA and Merideth, these are two friends with that timeless quality, no matter how far away or how long it's been since we last talked or how much our lives change, we are always able to just pick up where we left off without missing a beat. I am truly fortunate to have them in my life and love them dearly for it. This weekend just makes me miss them all the greater.
Thursday: I spent the day getting the house ready to welcome my guests and waiting for the hundreds of tropical flowers and roses to be delivered. Once the absolutely lovely Kitty, the charming accordion player Charlene and the always delightful Brian arrived and were settled in, we headed off to meatnog's to meet up for take out with other folks trickling in for the wedding. And then there was the dancing *sigh* I need to go out dancing more, who will go out dancing with me when I don't have my two favorite girlies shaking their booty to those anthems of our youth: Sex on Wheels and Rock Lobster.
Friday: My house was filled with music as the musicians practiced the wedding processionals (Love Song and Melt With You). They have a fan girl, me, as I love love love their rendition of The Mariner's Revenge Song by the Decemberist's. My home was also filled with flowers as Kitty worked her magic creating bouquets and center pieces. And the crew who made the booty bags were hard at work. All day I had a huge pot of curry on the stove for the evening's low key lounging pot luck.
Saturday: My house was grand central station. More music. More flowering. Last minute sewing of the wedding dress. Bride getting massaged and fed. Until it was time to go to decorate the site. Kudos to Kitty for organization and insight on decorating expertise.
The Wedding: Was beautiful, the vows they exchanged were moving and could resonate with any person in attendance. So realistic and loving in their expectations when including phrases like [paraphrasing], "Even though I know we will hurt each other, believe when I say it is not my intent and we'll be able to work through all that we face." I am always overwhelmed with emotions that reaffirm my own love and relationship at weddings, to share in such an intimate experience, my soul and heart are reminded of what's really important.
TT quote of the night, after the wedding while helping JA out of the dress and corset, "this isn't how I expected to spend my wedding night, in a room with three other women who have seen my wife naked before."
Sunday: Brunch (at a place that warrants a revisit) and more chatting and heaps of teary eyed goodbye's. Hopefully I will see some of these faces again sooner rather than later.
