2 out of 3
For those playing along or paying attention, today is the 4th anniversary of our second (out of three) wedding anniversaries. It is the oft over looked and left uncelebrated anniversary, except by my parents.
It's such a romantic story, that even though we recognize and celebrate the April 10, 1999 anniversary as our "real" anniversary, (the Common Law Anniversary, I like to recall the Tale of the Three Wedding Anniversaries. So gather 'round.
Today is the anniversary that my parent's recognize, it's the one where, just to cover our bases, we went to a Justice of the Peace and had our marriage license signed, and where my parents were the witnesses.
As we are atheist hedonistic heathens in the eyes of my family, we knew that having a non-religious ceremony performed by a close friend, was going to rub a lot of feathers in the wrong direction. So off to the J.P. we went to ease fears of the legality of our nuptials.
We later discovered that our friend could have legally signed our license for us, that would have made the day extra special and would have lessened the confusion of our anniversary for so many. (PA also has self-solemnizing marriages and Mark could have signed our license as well).
A few days later, amidst the confused looks of family blissfully unawares we were showered with congratulatory shouts of "Third Time's a Charm!"
