So, I am approaching another little break in employment, another period of time where I will be laid off due to lack of funding. At a minimum, I'm told it would be three months, but the outlook for the coming year is looking bleak (despite the earlier promises that were on the horizon that would have secured a position for me). At least my boss was honest when I asked for a straight forward answer, instead of finding out at the last possible moment. Such is the cycle of life where I work, working from grant to grant and seemingly endless empty promises of future security. Instead of sitting around waiting for some future project or grant to come through (and collecting unemployment), I am being much more proactive in searching for alternative employment. I have had one extremely promising interview already, for a position in Mellon Institute at CMU, which I'm fairly confident I'll get hired. This would be convenient, my commute wouldn't change and I would actually have benefits for a change, not too mention cushy university benefits! Here's to hoping few resumes need to go out and that I don't need to spend too long in work limbo.
