Pedometer gadget goodness
The pedometer I ordered came in the mail today. And I was right, it is definitely a fun little motivational gadget.
I was also right in that I am much above the 2000-3000 steps the average American takes in a day. I put in on shortly after six when I got home, after making dinner and going for a walk with Mark I logged 4822 steps, about 4400 of those are from the walk.
It is a neat gadget, after entering my weight and the length of my walking stride, it's telling me I walk 119 steps per minute, that I've walked 1.99 miles, I was averaging 2.9 miles per hour during the walk and that I've burned 150 calories since 6 pm. It will keep track of the last seven days as well.
I want to establish some baseline data from household activity and how much I move around at work to get a better idea for developing a fitness walking strategy. I found myself wanting to take a longer walk as if I were 'padding' the numbers. I need to know what my baseline is before I can 'pad' it with bulk walking :)
