The nephew of my chosen family
Little baby James is getting so big! I need to make sure I see Robyn and her little boy more often. I love Robyn, every time I spend time I see her I am reminded that I don't see my girlfriends often enough. I love the girl talk, I like watching her transform into a mother and gaining insight into the process from her. I'm not saying it's going to be easy for me, but I feel like I will be a fairly well prepared and informed parent when the time comes. I'm learning what not to do from some and I'm getting positive exposure to ideas I was looking into adapting and using from Robyn who seems to have similar ideas.
I'm not planning on being one of those 'attached parenting' crazies. However, there are a number of ideas I'm on board for. Including now, after hearing Robyn's experience, I think co-sleeping will be in the picture, at least for the early months while I breast feed. She had an excellent point. While the baby is sleeping in a bassinet, when he needs to get up to feed in the night, it turns into a huge production and thus mom and baby are up more, there is more fussing while trying to get the baby back to sleep. With co-sleeping, mom isn't even that aware of how often he's up to feed, baby can just latch on and off and everyone gets back to sleep quickly.
I hope the evening wasn't too traumatic for Robyn or James, since it was their first time taking him to a restaurant. We made a short trip for baby shopping. I wanted to get Robyn an activity saucer for James. After seeing what a useful item it has been for my nephews for so long, I thought she would appreciate one. He's almost ready for it, he'll be sitting up soon.
