I went to turn on some music to get my butt moving around the house, that and a cup of coffee helped energize me as well. I took a peek to see what cds were in the stereo. Lo, I discovered it has been a long time since either of us has listened to music. The discs were the same selection we had put in for our New Year's Eve dinner party. I go through slumps in my music listening. Sometimes, there are periods where nothing in our music collection inspires me. Apparently I am now fully capable of not listening to any music for months on end. Which is rather strange for me, you see, music has always had a place in my life, over seven years of ballroom dancing, both for fun and competitively, seemed to keep my feet and hips in constant motion. My husband does not dance. There is a direct correlation to my not dancing and my relationship with Mark. I hope to remedy that. Salsa dancing with Judith next week, I hope to find a new latin dancing crowd... but I digress. Back to the music... I do have my favorites; my stand-by's that have been in my collection seemingly forever that I never tire of listening to. Bjork. Loreena McKennitt. Portishead. Tori Amos. And yes, even Madonna, among others, including some jazz and standards. Mmmm... Sinatra... There are also those artists whom I admire and enjoy but have somehow managed to never include them in my collection. David Byrne and Peter Gabriel immediately come to mind as glaring omissions from my miniature music library. How does that happen? I even make a mental note to myself to go on a special music hunting missions for just such artists, for filling in the gaps in my spectrum of music tastes. It's been awhile since I've even purchased anything new. I honestly don't remember the last cd I bought. Driving to the collecting sites with a coworker who has every possible classical music cd on the planet, including some not-so-traditional, has opened my eyes to another realm of gaps. A favorite always in the mix in the cd player of the car is bond. They are on my mental list 'to purchase... at some point.' We'll see when and/or if that happens. %PHOTO{"http://denovich.org/gallery/markdeb/P5110019"}%
