Heading into the field today. Received some bad news from a ranger who happened to be patrolling at one of our sites. A fax was sent to The Nature Conservancy concerning the traps we set. Four out of the six that we set were destroyed. And this is only one of the six sites total. Whether that means destroyed or disturbed by humans, animals or flooding is yet to be determined. Whether that was only the most obvious traps or all of the traps were damaged, I don't know. Looking at the condition of the trap locations will provide the answer. It was noted that some of the traps were in this condition for at least a week. We are bringing enough supplies in case we need to set things up from scratch. This could potentially get extremely frustrating. If this much damage or vandalism occurs over the next two weeks, odds are a new collecting site will have to be determined. That is not good news. This is a time consuming endeavor. That is why sites were identified and permits sought after over six months ago.
