20 years ago today 1983 I was 8, in Ms. Fischer's third grade class at St. Martin's elementary school. 10 years ago today 1993 I was 18, I just finished my freshman year of college, decided on the Ecology and Evolution major. I had recently had a biopsy on my left tibia bone and bone marrow and was waiting to find out whether or not I had bone cancer or leukemia. Turned out, this was the single most emotionally stressful time of my life. 5 years ago today 1998 I recently moved in with my then boyfriend Mark Denovich. We had gone to tell my parents together that we were going to live together. This occasion was marked by the most uncomfortable moment of my life where my mother dominated the entire conversation setting the tone by immediately declaring, "You know there is a law that it is a sin against god if there is any fornication going on before marriage!" Other remarkable mom quotes directed toward Mark, "I bet you're like Deb, you don't believe in anything do you?", "Now, you are a handsome boy, you could tempt her!" (we'll let mom believe what she wants to believe) 3 years ago today 2000 I was back in school, working on my second degree, working very hard to prove my worth for a possible future of graduate school, 4.0 gpa, independent research, awarded a fellowship, preparing to study abroad in Costa Rica for the extremely competitive OTS program for a graduate course in tropical ecology. 2 years ago today 2001 I was working at a biological field station working on a quantitative genetics experiment and a secondary project studying predation behavior of clipper weevils on strawberry buds. I would become intimately familiar with over 5000 wild strawberry plants. 1 year ago today 2002 I was leaving my job at the law school library, new funding became available at the museum and was excited to return to the bug rooms. Yesterday At this time I had finally received the dinner I had ordered and was offered free dessert. Tomorrow At this time, I hope to be at home, relaxing with Mark.
