Sunday breakfast
What a fantastic idea for a fresh breakfast: unbelievably sweet red ripe strawberries, tart granny smith apple wedges, banana pieces and baguette slices. Saint Andre cheese to spread on the apples or bread, a touch of peanut butter to make mini open faced sandwiches with the bananas, a little pile of sugar for dipping the strawberries and of course our morning steaming cups of coffee.
I've mentioned in the past my love of Whole Foods. I love that when Mark and I walk away from this market, our basket of goods is exceptional, always full of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses and bread. It is such an enjoyable market experience; everything is always remarkably fresh and in excellent condition. With the exception of a few frozen meal items for lunches, we rarely select pre-packaged food items. We are inspired to stray from those regulars meals, those eight or so dishes everyone seems to have that they rotate through during the week.
The fruit is gorgeous, brilliant and delicious, the bread soft and fresh, always we walk away with a different variety of cheese. So rather than make homemade buttermilk pancakes or french toast or omelets, I was inspired to keep the meal simple, light and fresh. These were the items, unmolested, untainted, that made up our morning repast.
