Naughty clever kitty
I wondered why Greenie wasn't waking me up in her usual way. Normally she will sit patiently on my pillow directly beside my head and oh so gently she will reach out with her paw and delicately touch and poke my neck and cheek until I wake. And she will continue to do this until I make a move to get out of bed where she then sits in my immediate path of exit, making it as difficult as possible for me to get up. She then races to her food and water bowls, even though there is still a few pieces of kibble left from the day before, she waits until a fresh scoop has been poured before proceeding to crunch and nibble away. All of this impatience every morning and she will only consume a few pieces of kibble, just a couple of bites and she's satisfied. She always makes me wonder, if a few bites is all she wanted, why didn't she just go and finish up the few bites that were left from the day before and just let me sleep? She is spoiled, yes, always getting her fresh dry food in the morning.
Well, this morning ritual did not occur, which puzzled me, but all was revealed when I went downstairs and approached the couch in the living room. There, partially hidden tucked under the coffee table, was an opened can of kitty treats. She's demonstrated in the past her ability to remove the top of the treat can, but I thought it was an anomaly, surely the lid must have been loose in some way that it just happened to come off when she grabbed for it, or maybe the top popped off when she knocked it off the table. That is her favorite game, gently pushing or pulling items off of the table until we give in and reward her with a little treat. This was a new can, the lid had only been removed once and so had a good grip on the lip of the canister. She managed to open and eat almost the entire contents of the treat can.
Tsk, tsk, tsk! Naughty naughty kitty!
No more treats for Bean for a few days I think, as clever and cute as I may think she is; I don't think this is behavior I want to reinforce or reward.
