Fun Extracurriculars for Pittsburgh Homeschoolers

This is a list of links to classes, camps or activities that our daughter has participated in, enjoyed and I would recommend.  There are so many options in this city and we can’t do ALL the things, but it is great to have so much support on this non-traditional path and have a city wide homeschooling community.

Fern Hollow Nature Center has a series of monthly homeschool classes, we participated in the Maple Sugaring class and an Audubon birding program.

French language classes: play based small group (ages 5-10) class with a native speaker provided by an instructor through Institute of International Language and Arts.

Frick Environmental Center: the summer nature camp is a favorite.

Gymnastics at Gymkhana: she has participated in classes here for several years.

Homeschool Co-op of Pittsburgh building connections and friendships with monthly themed meetings, playdates, tours and other field trips.

Library programs: we visit many libraries in the area, but we regularly participate in programs at the C. C. Mellor Library in Edgewood.  The Homeschool monthly book club has introduced us to some authors and series we’ve enjoyed.

Museum homeschool classes at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  The Art Museum has programming as well, but we haven’t checked those out yet.

PALS a co-op offering a wide array of parent and volunteer led classes and experiences.

Phipps for Homeschoolers  Monthly themed classes at an affordable rate.

Pittsburgh Center for the Arts  open studio classes for homeschoolers and camps.

Sunburst Music School offers the flexibility of having private music lessons during the daytime.

Zoo classes: a favorite, for both the zoo camps and the homeschool course offerings, usually held in the Fall.
