Fun Extracurriculars for Pittsburgh Homeschoolers

This is a list of links to classes, camps or activities that our daughter has participated in, enjoyed and I would recommend.  There are so many options in this city and we can’t do ALL the things, but it is great to have so much support on this non-traditional path and have a city wide homeschooling community.

Fern Hollow Nature Center has a series of monthly homeschool classes, we participated in the Maple Sugaring class and an Audubon birding program.

French language classes: play based small group (ages 5-10) class with a native speaker provided by an instructor through Institute of International Language and Arts.

Frick Environmental Center: the summer nature camp is a favorite.

Gymnastics at Gymkhana: she has participated in classes here for several years.

Homeschool Co-op of Pittsburgh building connections and friendships with monthly themed meetings, playdates, tours and other field trips.

Let’s Play Music is a fun play based piano and music theory class.

Library programs: we visit many libraries and story times in the area, but I’m continually impressed with the variety, quality and quantity of programs at the Shaler Library.

MOMS Club through which our daughter has had a weekly playgroup since 10 months old.

Museum homeschool classes at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  The Art Museum has programming as well, but we haven’t checked those out yet.

Phipps for Homeschoolers

Pittsburgh Center for the Arts  open studio classes for homeschoolers and camps.

Carnegie Science Center homeschool workshops (looking forward to Spy School and Space Out)

Zoo classes: another favorite that we have participated in together for several seasons.
