Another Year, Another New Year’s Dinner

This year’s dinner was smaller than previous years, but also much more simple in terms of preparation and dishes served. There was only one “difficult” eater in attendance, where unusual food allergies and general food preferences prevented him from eating some of what was prepared. Overall is was a success and no one went hungry.

The menu:

Roasted Garlic and Ciabatta breads with various cheeses
My favorite salad: mixed baby field greens topped with dried cherries and cranberries, pecans, crumbled goat cheese and served with pear shallot or cappuccino vinaigrette.
Delmonico steaks grilled over a bed of wood coals in our fire place (providing a wonderfully smokey flavor)
Roasted mixed vegetables (zucchini, squash, carrots, bell peppers, onions)
Wild Rice and Cashew Pilaf

Karen provided the dessert, a strawberry chocolate creme brulee tart. Steve provided entertaining games to play, the new one San Juan is particularly fun. It was a great low key night and things wound down around two in the morning. We did stop and briefly watch and acknowledge a ball drop count down (we usually miss this part of the evening while entertaining only to notice an hour later that, oh, why yes, happy new year!)

2005 was a good year for us, one can only hope the new year brings as much love, adventure and fulfillment. Happy New Year everyone!
