Driver’s exam saga

I took the driver’s test again today. And I’m going to file a complaint.

I did not pass and I think it is clearly because I took it again two days after I had failed. Now, on the website it states, “If you are over the age of 18 and fail the driver’s test, you must wait at least one (1) day before you can take the test again.” If you’re under 18, you must wait at least a week to reschedule.

The examiner really gave my friend (I used her car and she was my licensed driver) a hard time about the timing between exams, sniping at her saying: “Why did you bring her back two days later?”, “She could take the test tomorrow but I still would’t pass her,” and, “Two days is not enough time between exams!”

I didn’t speed and I drove fine. I think the examiner had a stick up his ass about seeing that I returned two days later from a previous failure and made minor errors add up to much larger offenses. I’m a good driver, I’m clearly competent and confident in piloting a vehicle.

It’s not like I’m a teenager and have all the time in the world to just take the exam, I’m a 30 year old woman. I did not violate any regulation by scheduling road tests two days apart. It should not have had any bearing on my passing the test or not. He made far too much noise about the timing between my exams that I’m convinced that there was no way he would have passed me regardless of my driving ability.

Yes, I may have taken a wide right turn. But it was onto a street with two tractor trailers parked on the main road before the turn, where you could not clearly see where the gravel road was separate from the sea of gravel parking lot.

The driver’s exam is such an unnatural setting as well. It’s not as if ordinary time on the road there would be some guy with a clip board barking directions at me. I’m convinced they’re making up the route as they go along. And in my humble opinion, they do not give enough advanced warning for turns they want you to make. I know I was closer than 50 feet to any turn I was instructed to take. When the law requires signaling at least 100 feet before turning when traveling under 35 mph, I should not have been dinged for passing a turn that was only 10 feet or so off to my left when told to take it.

Do I need to remind the examiner of the law? This person who is there to nit-pick over every minor detail of my ability to operate the vehicle and adhere to the law, why should it be my responsibility to make sure he gives me ample time to signal the legally appropriate distance?

Fine.

I’m rescheduling for the end of next week– very close to my friend’s due date and a few days before my permit expires, so hopefully I can accomplish this before she has her baby and while this permit is still valid.

Bastards.
