Not a morning person, however…
Posted by deb on October 13th, 2004 filed in Musings & adventuresWith the start of Mark’s new job, I have lost that precious morning ride into work together. He would drop me off on his way to his Greentree office. He understands that I am not a morning person and tend to be exceptionally quiet as I move into the start of my day.
Now, I’m waking up while it is still dark out so I can catch the bus and he has a commute that consists of a few minutes, literally, on the road, heading away from town and only a mile or so from our house. There is nothing so disheartening as to having it be so dark when your alarm is insisting it is time to rise and having our normal morning routine disrupted.
Although this whole “getting up early” does not entirely agree with me, it does have its perks. For one, I’ve been getting to work earlier. I’ve been fairly consistent at being the first person through the door of my department for the past week and a half. This is a good thing since, combined with the fact that I never take breaks, it means I can leave early to catch an earlier bus home. Also, getting to work in advance of others gives me time to get into my groove for the day. I am much more productive when I have uninterrupted time at my disposal.
I am able to have even more time to read during my commute. It is a long enough ride that I hate to waste the time; it’s a thirty-five minute commute, taking me almost from doorstep to doorstep. I can guarantee at least an hour of leisure reading in my day, even if I end up being super lazy once I get home. I made sure to purchase a new shoulder bag sizable enough so that I will always have a book on me for the bus ride. Although, a number of books I recently acquired turned out to be large hardbacks and not so convenient for my bag.
Today I also was able to witness a rather spectacular sun rise. High cirrus clouds spraying orange and magenta wisps, highlighted with goldenrod, across an indigo sky. No, I’m not a morning person, but I can appreciate benefits of what the morning can give me.
