In the field pt. 4

Flooding. Lots of flooding, high water and full back pools. One site had only 2 viable traps, the other only 3. The remainder were either washed out or well under water.

This is frustrating and disheartening. June is the month where carabid beetles hit their peak. And now for the next two weeks there will only be a few traps in place to collect from. Grrr.

Nothing I can do. It is not in my budget or available funds to make additional trips into the field. Nor do I have time to budget away from laboratory time.

Pheh.

Fewer beetles for me.

We did encounter a few more shrews! Exciting! Rather than bottle them up in alcohol I left them to be a shrew diner, i.e. bait for carrion beetles. They had already attracted a crowd of them. Very exciting indeed.

Home again, home again
